Celebrating the Spirit

Hi! I am Soumya from A Little Paper Boat. And I am so delighted to be a part of KCW this season! Most of you may not know me at all for I am relatively new to the blogging/sewing world. I was introduced to KCW last October and have been hooked ever since!

There is a good reason to stay hooked to KCW. The kind of warmth and camaraderie  it brings about in the online sewing community is unmatched. And to think that most of us are complete strangers to each other! Yet we all come together for one week every season, to celebrate our common love – sewing.

So KCW to me has always been and will be about celebration.

But what could we be celebrating this summer? Let’s see!

Free Spirit: If kids could be compared to a season, I think it would be summer. Their souls are light as a cool summer breeze, their imagination – vivid and wide like the endless blue sky. Their spirit – free as a kite flying into that enormous sky.
They are the most spirited beings ever! Bright, happy, beautiful…full of sunshine and hope.
Joie de vivre? That’s them. So why not make them some clothes that celebrate this ebullient little spirit of theirs? Clothes that are light, comfortable, breezy…clothes that let them move, let them be.

I love how these clothes are all so simple and quick to make! And most likely, these will be the ones our kids will seek out to wear over and over again. A win – win for us 🙂

Celebrating Individuality: As a sewing mom my biggest moment of celebration is when I see my daughter truly adore a garment I made. It’s when she picks a ‘mom-made’ outfit over a store bought one. What could be a better compliment than that?!

Luckily, I know the secret to it 🙂 Include some snuggly animals, bright colors and happy prints – there! I have nailed it! But that’s my daughter. Yours could be different! Maybe yours is not crazy about prints at all? Yours could be more of a delicate ballerina? Or..erm..a scary monster? Maybe she wants to be a rainbow?

Thankfully, sewing gives us the creative freedom to celebrate these unique little personalities and their interesting choices.
Whatever/whoever they want to be, we can let them be.

And that indeed is enough reason to celebrate this season.

What’s yours gonna be?
