Hey, guys! I’m Molly, from Life With Zeke. This is so exciting for me to get to share my KCW experience. It’s been amazing to watch this challenge grow into this awesome community. I love being a part of it!
My first KCW was back in October of 2012. I used it as an excuse to finish Halloween costumes, & buy new patterns. All it took was one challenge, & I was hooked. Since my first challenge, I had another baby girl, which means handmade hand-me-downs! My youngest has finally grown into the green Parsley pants that I made during that first KCW.
KCW has inspired me to try new things that I never thought I’d do; like drafting patterns, printing fabric, & sewing from Japanese pattern books. I think the inspiration you get from scrolling through the project pools is almost as much fun as the actual sewing. I always leave the week on such a high, blown away by everyone’s creativity. It’s hard not to be inspired to do more.
The way I tackled the week changed when we found out my daughter has a polyester allergy (it turns out, both of them do). It’s way more difficult than you would think to find cute cotton clothes (that don’t break the bank). I went from using the week to try something new, to utilizing the week to crank out staple clothes that will be worn day in & day out. I started using the few days leading up to the challenge, to plan my patterns, & sometimes even cut my fabric. It allows me to have complete control over what fibers their clothes are made from. And, it also allows them more opportunities to give input on their clothes. All three of my kids love to put in requests for what should be sewn next.
