scavenger hunt: imagine gnats

Have you been enjoying scavenger hunt week? There are only two more hunts to go on, then it’ll be time to stop playing games and get down to serious KCW business:) Today’s featured shop is a fan favorite, Imagine Gnats. Rachael not only runs this successful online fabric store, but also has a popular blog, and makes patterns in her “spare time” (whenever that is!).

There is a lot of great fabric to be found in Rachael’s shop. She recently got a big shipment of french terry, which if you haven’t worked with before you are in for a real treat! French Terry is a knit fabric that is heavier than a t-shirt, but lighter than a sweatshirt. It has a good amount of stretch which makes it super comfy. The best thing about french terry is how soft it is!

Sometimes the things we sew for our kids are really for ourselves. Other times we want to make clothes that our kids will fall in love with. To do that it has to be soft and it has to be comfortable. There are some kids who are extra fussy about how things fit, sticky-y out-y tags, and scratchy seams. I have one of those (and was one of those!) so I know that Halloween can be an especially frustrating holiday. Feeling over-heated in itchy, plastic fabric is no fun. French Terry to the rescue, I say!

1. kid ewok 2. skeleton costume 3. totoro costume 4. shark hat

I picked out a few costumes that I think would work well–and be extra comfy–in french terry. I cannot get over the cuteness of that little ewok! And the costume looks like it would be pretty easy to put together too. Both the skeleton and Totoro costumes could do double duty as pjs. And the shark hat ticks off all the boxes: the DISGUISE theme, a little bit cute, and a little bit scary.

1. penguin hooded vest pattern by Hello Dear Kids 2. french terry cheetah 3. french terry zebra 4. french terry in burnt orange

The best pattern I found to show off Imagine Gnat’s lovely collection of french terry is this penguin hooded vest by Hello Dear Kids. It looks fun to sew and even more fun to wear! Just by changing up the features on the hood, and using some of the fabric I featured above, you could have a cheetah or zebra or cute little puppy vest. The vest will work for Halloween, everyday dress up play, and as a cozy vest on chilly fall days. You could hardly ask for more!
