I promised you a post about boys’ patterns and here is it;)
People tend to shy away from sewing boys’ clothes. It’s true that they can be a bit more involved than, say, an elastic waist skirt, but they are incredibly satisfying to sew. Girls have a reputation for being picky, but I think my sons are twice as particular as my daughter. They want their clothes to be a certain color, no a certain shade of a certain color; and they need to be easy to put on–no fussy snaps or zippers or buckles; and if they are not the most comfortable thing in the world, well then those clothes will never see the light of day.
Making clothes that your boys love is challenging, but when they fall in love with something you’ve made it’s the best feeling in the world. Sharon, the designer and owner of Zonen 09, has not only embraced this challenge, but built a company around it. Her patterns are comfortable, modern, filled with delightful details, and a pleasure to sew. In Sharon’s words:
Zonen 09 loves sewing for boys. That is why we design sewing patterns for stylish and comfortable boys clothing. Every pattern comes with a detailed step by step photo tutorial that makes it fun and easy for their moms to sew their sons unique handmade outfits.
Zonen 09 is located in Belgium, so naturally all the patterns are available in Dutch. There are four Zonen 09 patterns available in English: Ole, Pim, Charlie, and Jacob. But on the first day of KCW, Monday April 20, the Cisse pants pattern and the Lars jacket pattern will be released in English as well! The Cisse is pictured above. You can see some of the details Zonen 09 is famous for: double pocket, double piped pocket, piped cuffs, welt pockets with a button closure. All of these details can be included, or you can omit them all for a well-tailored, simple summer short.
The Lars comes out in English on Monday too and this is far and away my favorite pattern. If I saw this jacket in a store, it would surely be out of my price range:) The coat closes with a zipper and velcro and opens to reveal a gorgeous curved–and piped!– lining. The add-on hood pattern pulls tight with an elastic cord and attaches easily with buttons. The giant pocket in front is très cool and quite useful too. This coat will no doubt be a favorite and could very easily become an heirloom!
If all these details make you nervous–don’t be! Sharon walks you through each and every step. Her tutorials are quite extensive. She explains every step in the sewing process in detail, so even beginning sewers can use the patterns without troubles.
Even though Sharon’s patterns are designed with boys in mind, there are plenty of girls walking around in Zonen 09 outfits. Isabelle from Mini Dotter sews a lot of Zonen 09 patterns for her three girls and they are absolutely stunning! Sharon also has a whole page devoted to girls in Zonen 09 on pinterest.
I know you are eager to get to the giveaway. I mean how could you not want to sew up all of these patterns right this minute?! But I wanted to let you in on a little secret. Sharon has been working for months on adding a new branch to her company: fabric design! The designs are in the final stages, so be on the look out for Zonen 09 fabric for boys. Her fabric designs are sure to be as fantastic as her patterns.
