zonen 09 + giveaway

I promised you a post about boys’ patterns and here is it;)

People tend to shy away from sewing boys’ clothes. It’s true that they can be a bit more involved than, say, an elastic waist skirt, but they are incredibly satisfying to sew. Girls have a reputation for being picky, but I think my sons are twice as particular as my daughter. They want their clothes to be a certain color, no a certain shade of a certain color; and they need to be easy to put on–no fussy snaps or zippers or buckles; and if they are not the most comfortable thing in the world, well then those clothes will never see the light of day.

Making clothes that your boys love is challenging, but when they fall in love with something you’ve made it’s the best feeling in the world. Sharon, the designer and owner of Zonen 09, has not only embraced this challenge, but built a company around it. Her patterns are comfortable, modern, filled with delightful details, and a pleasure to sew. In Sharon’s words:

Zonen 09 loves sewing for boys. That is why we design sewing patterns for stylish and comfortable boys clothing. Every pattern comes with a detailed step by step photo tutorial that makes it fun and easy for their moms to sew their sons unique handmade outfits.

cisse pants (and shorts )pattern has several pocket, fly and waistband possibilities

Zonen 09 is located in Belgium, so naturally all the patterns are available in Dutch. There are four Zonen 09 patterns available in English: Ole, Pim, Charlie, and Jacob. But on the first day of KCW, Monday April 20, the Cisse pants pattern and the Lars jacket pattern will be released in English as well! The Cisse is pictured above. You can see some of the details Zonen 09 is famous for: double pocket, double piped pocket, piped cuffs, welt pockets with a button closure. All of these details can be included, or you can omit them all for a well-tailored, simple summer short.

lars jacket pattern is fully lined with a high collar, hood option, zipper and velco closure, and piping details

The Lars comes out in English on Monday too and this is far and away my favorite pattern. If I saw this jacket in a store, it would surely be out of my price range:) The coat closes with a zipper and velcro and opens to reveal a gorgeous curved–and piped!– lining. The add-on hood pattern pulls tight with an elastic cord and attaches easily with buttons. The giant pocket in front is très cool and quite useful too. This coat will no doubt be a favorite and could very easily become an heirloom!

If all these details make you nervous–don’t be! Sharon walks you through each and every step. Her tutorials are quite extensive. She explains every step in the sewing process in detail, so even beginning sewers can use the patterns without troubles.

Isabelle from Mini Dotter sews a lot of Zonen 09 patterns for her three girls and they are absolutely stunning! Sharon also has a whole page devoted to girls in Zonen 09 on pinterest.

I know you are eager to get to the giveaway. I mean how could you not want to sew up all of these patterns right this minute?! But I wanted to let you in on a little secret. Sharon has been working for months on adding a new branch to her company: fabric design! The designs are in the final stages, so be on the look out for Zonen 09 fabric for boys. Her fabric designs are sure to be as fantastic as her patterns.

I have recently sewn Jacob for my daugher, Sharon put it in her Pinterest board. The patterns are absolutly fabulous te sew with. It was the first pants that actually fit my daughter. I also made two Theo’s for my son, it looks gorgeous on him. No way I would let the change of winning more patterns from Zonen 09 go past me. The pdf’s are in English and paper in Dutch, but would Dutch pdf’s also be a possibillity?

I have not yet sewn any patterns from Sharon, but I’ve been trying to work up the nerve to sew up a Charlie. I’m new to sewing and to Belgium so I’ve been eagerly following Sharon’s blog and I’m SO excited to hear about the new English patterns!

As mom of 2 boys, I love Sharon’s mission to design only patterns for boys!! I’ve sewn the Pim short and the Theo shirt. Pim was the first pattern ever that I managed to sew without any help, just following the great explanations was enough. I would love to receive the patterns in Dutch on paper.

The patterns of Zonen09 are marevellous. I did a Cisse and a Theo, and I would like making all of them. Looking forward as well to the bigger sizes:-) Sharon is working hard on it!

I’ve sewn a few Jacobs and they turned out super! I see why you’re enthusiastic about the jacket, because I would want to sew 3 jackets for my boys right away! So yes, more of Sharons patterns for me please.

I would love to sew Lars jackets for my twin boys! I’d just have to rename one of them Erik 😉
I really love the professional and finished look with the lining, piping, elastic, buttons and all. What a wonderful pattern <3

Wow, 6 Zonen09 patterns, that’s simply too good to be true! I don’t have Instagram or Twitter, so I can’t pick all the options, but still keeping all my fingers crossed on the lookout for this beautiful price. With these patterns, KCW would only be better than it already is!

I haden’t heard of zonen 09 until now & am quite glad to learn of them. I can’t wait to go over and browse their shop. I’m confident I will find an abundance of treasures! My boys definately need their own lars jackets.

I haven’t yet sewn a Zonen 09 pattern, but am a long time admirer. Was mostly stopped by the Dutch instructions. But now that more of them are available in English, the Cisse and the Lars might find their way into my shopping cart. And while I’m at it, I might have to add the Theo even though it’s only in Dutch…
