the scientific seamstress and sis boom patterns + giveaway

I discovered the Scientific Seamstress, Carla Crim, way back in 2011 when she did a fantastic series on Sew Mama Sew about drafting, grading, formatting, and marketing PDF patterns. Carla has since gone on to write 2 books on pattern making for children’s clothes:

Carla also has her own line of patterns called the Scientific Seamstress because she is a molecular biologist turned pattern maker!  She applies the rigorous testing techniques she learned in the lab to making sewing patterns with instruction that are clear and concise.  Carla has also partnered with fabric designer Jennifer Paganelli to develop the pattern line Sis Boom.

We at the Scientific Seamstress/Sis Boom patterns believe in high quality patterns and detailed sewing instructions. Each pattern has plenty of options and a great size range included! Just like actual science we focus on making patterns that are clear and logical with extreme attention to detail. We also have a wonderful and supportive facebook group that Carla, Cathy, and Jeanine are very active in as well as thousands of sewists like you, so when you are purchasing a pattern from us you never have to feel like you are going it alone and can ask questions anytime.

The Scientific Seamstress and Sis Boom PDF patterns are quite extensive! They include detailed, but concise, step-by-step instructions with both photos and diagrams, design options, outfit suggestions, lists of materials, and comprehensive sizing information. Plus tips, tricks, and alternative methods are incorporated whenever needed.

Not only that, but on the Scientific Seamstress blog you will find many tutorials for adding pattern extras. Above you can see all the options for the simple Tabago Tank pattern. And below you can see the All the Rage Raglan top tutorials. There is even a tutorial for upcycling three knit tanks into a cute raglan dress with a hood!

I love the ethan shirt! Ive learned (the hard way) that the sizing is spot on and i dont need to go up the next size. Instructions are awesome. Im going to try to use the pattern for a hack into a romper for my girl and a jon jon for my baby boy.

My favorite is the Jamie dress. I also have the kids version (the Marissa) that I will be using for my granddaughter. But I just purchased the new Carolina Mae, and that could very well become my favorite, once I have a chance to stitch it up!

I love the Marissa dress, but I think that my first choice would be the All-the Rage raglans pattern. I could see the kids wanting to wear a version of that pattern every day of the week. Thanks for the chance to win.

I love all the Sisboom patterns I have made for myself & my daughters including Angie, Jenny & Jamie but my favourite for the kids would have to be Molly as a quick & easy to wear dress.

I have nearly all the patterns & the Caroline Mae is on the list to make as is getting Gabriella Fae pattern for my grandies.

I absolutely love the Portrait Peasant pattern. I have made shirts, dresses, and night gowns from it. I have used this pattern since she was 2 she is now 6 and I have used the largest size (8) for nightgowns recently. I will be looking for a pattern to replace it when she completely out grows it.
