oliver + s and a giveaway

Welcome to giveaway week! This week is full of so many wonderful things! I’m excited to introduced you to new shops and visit old favorites as well. Plus everyday there will be fantastic prizes to win!

Let’s start with everyone’s favorite, Oliver + S:

Oliver + S designs contemporary paper and PDF sewing patterns for children’s clothing and sells patterns by today’s best independent designers.

But Oliver + S doesn’t just design any old pattern.  They make well fitted, classically designed clothes and write the easiest to follow, most well written directions out there. They have been the gold standard for children’s wear patterns since they started. Even as the pool of independent designers has exploded in the last few years, Oliver + S continues to produce first-rate patterns.

Their new patterns are no exception. There are three new patterns in the spring-summer 2014 line: the Hide-And-Seek Dress, the Lullaby Layette, and the Garden Party Dress.  Whenever there is a new release by Oliver + S, the internet explodes with excitement and beautiful garments start popping up left and right. I’ve picked some of my favorites that were made with the s/s 14 patterns.

1. hide and seek tunic by Jess 2. houndstooth hide and seek dress by Rachael  3. hide and seek dress by Delia 4. hide and seek tunic by Erin

As with many of Oliver + S patterns, the hide and seek dress is quite simple. It is a relaxed-fit dress (or tunic!) with a front yoke and welt pockets. But as you can see from the photos above it can go from a breezy summer top to a strikingly bold dress. You can play up the yoke with color blocking or stripes–you can even have fun with the back–or just let the pretty shape of the dress be the defining feature.

1. baby’s first Oliver + S by Nichole 2. lullaby baby jacket by Cherie 3. tiny many jacket by Kristin  4. lullaby layette by Patricia

It’s surprising that there aren’t that many layette patterns out there and perhaps after the Oliver + S lullaby layette pattern there doesn’t need to be;)  This pattern includes a shirt and bodysuit (both short or long sleeved), pants, and a jacket. The pieces can be made out of knit or lightweight wovens. And as you can see from above they can be very sophisticated or super playful. Either way these are much more beautiful than any you can buy at the store.

1. birthday dress by Gail 2. garden party blouse by Vanessa 3. garden party dress by Jess 4. meadow garden party dress by Kristin

The last of the spring/summer line is the Garden Party dress. This is twirly girl’s dream! Flow-y, flower-y and comfy too! I know many little girls who would live in this dress. But then again, it doesn’t have to be sewn up in florals. Vanessa chose to make the tunic length in a bold black and white heart print. I absolutely love how it turned out!

 1. grainline studio 2. sew loft 3. victory 4. waffle 5. named

Oliver + S sells all of their patterns in printed or in PDF form on their site. But did you know that they also sell a selection of  beautiful patterns from independent designers. Some you might have heard of, some you might not have, but all of them make patterns for gorgeous clothes.

    Love Oliver+S patterns 🙂
I can’t even pick a single favorite! I’ve sewn most of them so far and these are definitely among my all-time favorite patterns (flawless step-by-step instructions and great designs).
My current favorite from the new SS14 collection: The Hide and Seek dress 🙂

Love Oliver + S patterns! The hide and seek dress looks like a fun one for this fall. I subscribed to the newsletter but can’t seem to pin from my phone- Pinterest keeps giving me an error button once I choose the pic. Argh!

I would LOVE to win these patterns! A friend of mine is obsessed with Oliver+S, and I have been wanting to get started on some of these projects! The Lullaby Layette would be perfect, as I’m expecting my 3rd baby in December!

i can hardly choose what o+s pattern is my fav.  i love the picnic blouse.  i remember thinking it was the first time i made something that i loved way more than any store bought children’s clothing.

I made my daughter a trio of Ice Cream tops for school this year. I love the versatility of the pattern and the style. I makes a great top with skinny jeans and boots in cooler weather and a lovely light top for the summer.

My fave Oliver + S pattern is the Sunday brunch jacket and a-line skirt.  I did the jacket in a purple uncut corduroy for my daughter and a coordinating cotton skirt.  It is just darling!

The only Oliver +S pattern I’ve made is the popover sundress, but I’ve made at least a dozen of them. They make a great last minute birthday gift for little girls!

Oh how to choose a favourite? Maybe the Roller Skate Dress, but I’ve been eyeing off the Garden Party Dress to make when I’ve made the other purchased but not yet sewn O&S patterns. Thanks for the chance to win it.

  9. Morgana

I recently purchased two of the newest patterns but now I need the larger sizes of the ice cream dress and the roller skate dress. And the family reunion dress. And several others. How wonderful it would be to win!

Thisfar, I only made the bucket hat and the tea party summer dress and I loved them both. Today, my kids are wearing the dress and playsuit and people are complimenting them everywhere they go 🙂
