“Oh no! Fall is here and I have nothing to wear!” said the little girl. “No fear, KCW is coming and you’ll have plenty to wear” answered the mom. “But where do I start?” thought the mom….
Hello! Celina here from Petit a Petit and Family. I hope you enjoyed my Monday post? Have you figured out how you were going to prepare for KWC this year? I’ve never been so prepared and it’s the most amazing feeling- thanks Meg! Well I am really excited about todays post because this might be my favourite subject of all: Inspiration.
The one thing I love most about designing is researching and getting inspired. I love looking at images for hours on end, I always have- you should see my stack of magazines. I love connecting the dots and figuring out the trends and the next big thing. I absolutely love creating mood boards and have a lot of fun doing just that on my Tumblr, Least Little thing. But to really figure out the trends and colors of the season I like to use Pinterest and life couldn’t be any easier. I use to cut out magazine pages and file them by category and would have folders on my computer: kids accessories, coats, dresses, furniture, woman’s… Seriously, how did I live without Pinterest? Now, I spend hours looking and pinning to various boards, one for kids styling, one just for clothing, one for details, one with tutorial and handmade clothes, one just for the boys and so many more. I do all this mainly to inspire me and eventually create something of my own from all that I have absorbed.
As I looked through my boards this season I couldn’t help and see a recurrent theme, specially color wise. Look for yourself…
Shades of yellow and mustard are very predominant, add a little tangerine and some brown to the mix. For an interesting combination mix the yellows with teals and turquoises. Indigo and any shade of denim are still very strong colors for this fall, as well as lots of greys, beiges and taupes.
Wear all the colors together in a prints or a tartan. You cannot go wrong with polka dots, florals and of course stripes. Anything with geometric shapes or animals is a must have.
Mix and Match. Yup! If you want to remember just one thing… M-I-X-a-n-d-M-A-T-C-H.
Now for the clothes, definitely dresses for girls and tutus, lots of tutus worn with chunky knit sweaters. Blazers for boys. Harem pants and skinnies for both boys and girls. All kinds of scarfs and pompoms on everything. Peter pan collars are still a must. Quilted vest, jacket, hoodies, sleeves, anything really. And maybe you don’t want to hear it, but color blocking is still going strong!
I hope this gives you lots to think about and inspires you a little. Come check out my Pinterest boards and my Tumblr Least Little Things for more inspiration. I will be posting many more of these Trend Alerts type posts on my blog Petit a Petit + Family in the next coming weeks, so come say hello!
So how do you get inspired?
