kcw community: better, better, better

Since the last KCW, Meg and I have gone through all your comments and feedback from facebook, twitter, and this blog. We’ve made ourselves a big to-do list filled with things that will make the Kid’s Clothes Week community site even better. Personally, I love a list and the tiny happiness that comes with crossing things off a list. I am happy to report that we have a few of your most asked for items taken care of:

Comments

This is a big one. You can now comment on people’s projects! Often when I was looking through last season’s projects, I had the impulse to tell people how cool their stuff was, but there was no commenting ability. Ack! We know you felt it too, so we have commenting all set and ready for the coming season.

Sideways images

The KCW image upload process wasn’t always being respectful of the auto-rotate flag that some cameras have. This technical difficulty is all fixed. If you have sideways images on the site, you can delete them and re-upload them, and them problem will be fixed.

Projects for a Pattern

On pattern pages, you can see the most recent 20 projects made with that pattern. This is the most fun! We’ll also be adding a link to a page that will show all the projects for that pattern.

Easier browsing

If you’re looking for something in particular, the search function is the way to go, but if you just want to browse, we’ve added pagination to projects and patterns to make this a little easier and faster.

We’ve also put in a number of smaller changes, and we still have more to go! Dashboard additions, favorites, and main project image flagging are coming up next. Thanks for all your suggestions!

I’m sure you already covered this, but was it your idea for sewers to add projects to the database from challenge weeks only, or any completed projects? Either way sounds great, I just couldn’t recall. And the upgrades look great- getting excited for kcw fall!

The focus is on the challenge weeks, but it totally OK to put all your kids clothes projects up! The community site is part organization tool – it’s part of what we like about it.

Wonderful changes! So excited to be able to comment directly on a photo, I agree, I wanted to do that this summer too! Also, checking people’s blogs from their work will be a fun way to connect and stay connected after KCW. Have you already posted when the fall challenge is? I can’t seem to find it and want to mark it in my calendar. Can’t wait!
